President’s Corner
On behalf of the Flight
Standards Retirees, a mere "Thank You" for our officers' work in 2007 doesn't
seem adequate; however, I commend them for their service: Lois Shaw's triple
duty-President, Chaplain, and Historian; Frank Kellogg for his past work and
accepting another year of the unenviable task of Secretary-Treasurer; Jack
Kenton, Editor, for an innovative Newsletter; and Gene Haldas for maintenance of
our web site. Thank you, and I also want to thank Bud Shaw for assisting Lois
in any way he can, such as being the physical custodian of the records she has
and Don Tyson for accepting the role of 2008 Vice-President. Thank all of you
that have assisted our officers, especially those who are custodians of FRS
artifacts and those who offered suggestions and helped me.
As we prepare for
Savannah, please
note there is a fare-free shuttle and ferry system. The Chatham Area Transit
(CAT) Shuttle may be accessed at stops 8 and 16 near the Hilton Savannah Desoto
hotel. "The fare-free CAT Shuttle connects to most CAT routes serving Savannah
and Chatham County. It offers convenient service from downtown hotels, inns,
and the Savannah Visitors Center to Savannah's historic sites, squares, River
Street, Savannah Belles Ferry, houses of worship ... The fare-free CAT Shuttle
is comfortable and climate-controlled for all weather service and all vehicles
are Wheelchair accessible."
Please pick up a CAT Shuttle Map and make your stay in Savannah as inexpensive
as you explore its Historic District on your own.
Again, Savannah
is one of the "Top 10 Walking Cities." To sample the true charisma of
Savannah,
be prepared to walk the city streets and visit its squares, whenever you can.
IF YOU ARE NEAR THE MULBERRY INN AT NOON, PLEASE STOP FOR LUNCH.
