Commander William R. “Bill” Ost, (Ret.), 83, formerly of Platte County, MO, passed away on Friday, April 27, 2007

 

at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cameron, MO. Mass of Christian burial will be Tuesday, May 1 at 10:00 a.m.,

 

St. Therese Catholic Church, 7277 NW Hwy 9, Parkville, MO; burial will be at 12:30 PM in Leavenworth National

 

Cemetery, Leavenworth, KS. Visitation 6:00-8:00 p.m. Monday at McGilley Antioch Chapel, 3325 NE Vision Rd.,

 

 Kansas City, MO, where a rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. The family suggests contributions to the Employees

 

Fund at the Missouri Vets Home, 1111 Euclid, Cameron, MO 64429.

 

 

Bill was born January 3,1924 in Kansas L City, MO to Emil and Emily Ost. He attended Holy Cross School and is a

 

 graduate of Northeast High School class of 1941. Bill is an Eagle Scout and a Runner in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say.

 

Bill retired 6 in 1979 after a distinguished career as a C pilot with the U. S. Navy and with the Federal Aviation

 

Administration. A commissioned officer during World War F’ II, Bill served as flight instructor, flying F PBY-5A

 

sea planes in squadrons 186 and F’ VP-2 from the Naval Air Station in Corpus Christi, TX. Upon retirement from  

 

active duty, Bill continued his military  service  in The U. S. Navy Reserve, achieving the rank of Commander, and  

 

was Commanding Officer of patrol squadron VP-703, Dallas, TX. Bill’s career with the Federal Aviation Admini-

 

stration spanned 17 years and a variety  of positions, most notably Chief of the  Flight Standards district office in St.

 

 Louis, MO and Acting Division Chief of the Flight Standards regional office in Kansas City, MO.

 

Bill is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Patricia (Daniels) Ost and their four children: Kathleen (Dick) Kramer,

 

 Kearney, MO; Linda Scholdberg, Kear­ney, MO; Christine (Andy) Gaines, Col­leyville, TX and William R. II, Lake

 

 Waukomis, MO; ten adoring grandchil­dren and nine great-grandchildren. Four siblings also survive: Jack (Genevieve)

 

Ost, Pompton Plains, NJ, Richard (Mary) Ost, Colorado Springs, CO, Patricia I (Frank) Reagan, O’Fallon, MO and Mark

 

Ost (Carol Luhn), Pineville, MO. Bill was a jack-of-all-trades. He en­joyed a lengthy retirement rebuilding the home where

 

he and Pat entertained family and friends often. They traveled extensively and wintered in South Padre Island, TX where

 

 they made many new friends Bill’s greatest achievement is the love and respect of his family and the many dear friends who

 

will miss him greatly
