A note from his wife Annette
Dear Friends,
I just returned from a trip with Peggy and Steve to Charleston, SC,
where our son Bryan, his wife Karen, and our 10 year old granddaughter
Skyler live.
It was our sort of "pilgrimage" for Joe, because we brought his
cremated ashes along with us on the ride.
In Charleston, Bryan rented an airplane and took his Dad's ashes
up for his "last flight", very touching!
Later that day. at 6 pm. a "sunset-cruise" was arranged. when we
(just our famiy)boarded a 60-foot boat, and sailed around Charleston
Harbor. We passed the large Battleship USS "Yorktown", permanently
based there, and finally scattered Joe's ashes out at sea!
It was a sober little ceremony, and while we were throwing flowers
into the water, this huge C-17 airplane, from the Navy Base there,
flew over, on its way with cargo for Iraq and Afghanistan. A very
appropriate "farewell" for Joe!
We certainly hope he is in a better place now, reunited with family
and friends, and that he was pleased with our last send-off. For us,
it was definitely some sort of a closure!
Many thanks for all your cards, e-mails, and phone calls!
Love,
Annette
