MARJORIE  J. FANNING

 

 

Jane Casey Fanning was born on December 2, 1918, in Coming, KS. She died on August 13, 2006: in Oklahoma City, OK. Jane was the youngest of six children born to John Alfred Casey and Maria Guadalupita Jaramillo Casey.

 

 Her father was a pastry chef at the Antlers Hotel in Colorado Springs where he met and married Pita who was a linen girl before moving 'sack to Corning to tend to the family farm.

 

Jane was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Alfred, Edwin [Mike] and Raymond and her sister Nell.  Jane attended a one-room schoolhouse, Greenwood Country School, through 3rd grade, most of the time riding horseback with her brothers and sister. Jane, and her family lived through  the depression by sharing, caring and loving one another, while always finding a way to manage through the tough times. This spirit of independence and resilience allowed her to manage through many of the ups and downs in her life. Jane graduated from Coming High School Her first job was with Kansas State College Agronomy Dept. She left the college to attend the Striklers Business College in Topeka where she met her husband, Star Fanning. Jane and Star were married July 26, 1942. They were married for 17 years. Jane followed Star to different army bases where she worked as a secretary; with groups like Federal Government War Production, the State Legislature in Florida. Jane and Star moved to Oklahoma1 City in 1947. She worked for the Director of Social Services for nine years before transferring to the Federal Aviation Agency, Where she worked until she retired in 1976.  Jane is survived by one brother, Clarence Tulloch Casey, several nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews* Jane touched many in the community; she worked as a mentor for Quiz Kids, helped form the Oklahoma Centenarian Club, where her mother was the first member, a dedicated supporter of the YMCA, Christ the King Church, an active donor to OCU, an avid sports fan and supporter of the Oklahoma Sooners. When Jane was in high school she played the organ for the Coming Methodist Church, led Sunday School singing and taught Sunday school classes. Jane has devoted many years to helping others starting as a youngster caring for her grandmother, her sister when she became in invalid, a dear friend in Topeka, her mother, and many other family members and friends. It is with Jove that the family could return the care she so graciously gave to others. Services were held at Smith & Kernke, 14624 N May Ave., Oklahoma City on Aug 18, 2006 at 10:00 am and another service at the Corning United Methodist Church in Corning, KS on Aug 19, 2006 at 11:00 am. Donations can be made to the Christ the King Church Centenarian Club or the American. Cancer Society.
